Circle’s commitment to #KeepThePromise continued on Wednesday as we hosted the fantastic team from Who Cares? Scotland. Our entire staff team were present (via zoom), as part of our continued investment in staff training and development.

Two of the Who Cares? Scotland team, Katie and Laurie, delivered a thought-provoking presentation around the Care Experienced Community in Scotland and highlighted new methods of working we could adopt to ensure our staff provide the best possible support to care experienced children and families.

Throughout the training, we were able to discuss the lifelong impact of care, and the issues of mental and physical health that are experienced by the care community. We received first-hand accounts from care experienced young people, who told their own story, and how the stigma around care has impacted their lives.

This encouraged staff to reflect upon what the term ‘Care Experienced’ means to Circle and the work we do in supporting individuals. One of our Family Outreach Workers, Issy Buchan commented:

“I see my role (with care experienced individuals) in providing clarity, and reassurance by explaining/exploring the wider situation and reflecting on the skills and resilience they have and the special things that only they can bring”

A huge thanks to Who Cares? Scotland for delivering such an informative and useful session!
