The Mentoring Project
The Mentoring Project is a youth-led peer support group that improves the wellbeing of children and young people in deprived areas of North Edinburgh, particularly Pilton and Muirhouse. The Mentoring Project offers a free, accessible, and nurturing after-school environment where children and young people engage in activities, build positive relationships, and develop confidence to realise their full potential. The project pairs children aged 8-12 with volunteer mentors aged 16-18 from local schools for a year-long mentoring program.
The Mentoring Project is funded through National Lottery Young Start and aims to achieve the following outcomes:
- children and young people have better physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
- children and young people have better connections with the wider community
- children and young people get access to new skills and training opportunities which will help them to get a new job or start a business
