Warning – May Contain Puns! The Haven’s edible garden project has grown and is really starting to put down roots. Families have planted, propagated, pruned and started to pluck some great fruit and veg from the soil of Craigroyston. Families have grown curly kale, courgettes, radishes, lots of lettuce, beetroot and cabbage to name but a few. There’s plenty more still in the plots and we look forward to carrots, potatoes, tomatoes…
With the help of our regular volunteer, Alex Low, we have added to our annual fruits (apples and cherries) and are now growing rhubarb, blackberries and gooseberries for families and groups to bake with next year. This project has seen adults and children alike encouraged to try new things and growing in the belief of their own abilities. One child (receiving help to improve his diet and health) has come back for the second year and enjoys supporting his family to have a more balanced diet. We continue to harvest seeds and maintain our healthy compost heap, and we look forward to year three being as productive as this year.
