Circle’s Haven Project is celebrating their fourth book ‘Inviting the Zoo to Come Home’. The book was created by children and families supported by the project throughout the week of July 25th-29th.

Day 1 – Families and Circle staff visited Edinburgh Zoo (courtesy of Wild about Scotland) where we explored and looked at the animals, taking photos and encouraging the children to use their imaginations for ideas for the book.

Day 2 – We met our resident children’s author Mike Nicholson at North Edinburgh Arts Centre, where he encouraged the children to express their ideas and open up their minds to all the escapades and antics of the animals.

Day 3 – Mike put together the book overnight and read the story to the families, and it was tweaked here and there and finalised. Angela Austin resident Illustrator at North Edinburgh Arts then pulled out key illustrations for the families to draw.

Day 4 – Families came back to draw more key themes and animals for the book for Angela to take away for the storyboards for Friday’s celebration with parents.

Day 5 – Celebration at North Edinburgh Arts Centre with families and friends. Mike read the story to everyone (with much help from 3 year old Kalub).

Circle’s Haven Project will be publishing our new book and launching it in November during Book Week Scotland, watch this space!
